    Screening for breast cancer misses target

    Three in 10 women aged 50-70 are not receiving breast cancer screening every three years, despite government targets.

    New figures published by the Department of Health last week show that just under 70 per cent of women in this age group are being screened despite the government’s 2000 NHS cancer plan target of breast screening every three years being available on the NHS to all women aged 50 and over. The statistics also show a huge disparity in screening across the country.

    Study: Mammograms Less Affordable

    A new study shows the higher out-of-pocket costs of mammograms are preventing some women from having them.

    Experts say many insurance plans are now upping the amount of money patients have to pay for doctor visits and medical tests, including mammograms.

    That added cost contributed to an eight percent decrease in mammograms over three years, they say.
