Twice tested false positive for htlv1 while donating plasma,

    29th September 2009

Due to my vocal cord surgery, (that there was no found cause for loss of usage of vocal cord), two false positive results for htlv-1, constant bloating sensation after every meal, no matter what I eat or drink. Hip (right mostly) pain when walking and lethargy (at times extreme, ) and trouble sleeping with very restless sleeping habits. Minimal exercise tires me quickly. My question is should I see someone concerning these conditions? if so whom ? should i be concerned over being tested for leukemia (as the htlv1 sometimes indicates) or is this just a garden variety of symptoms I am discovery as I get older ? I have not gone to anyone because I do not want to see someone over everyday issues, yet with the issues I did have never being resolved or explained, leaves the question in the mind of what do I possibly have if anything ? Should I see someone and whom ? Your answer is greatly appreciated. My email for further info etc is comedymac@aol.com Thanks

Thyroid nodules with two different types of calcification

    26th September 2009

I have two thyroid nodules, each with different types of calcification. On my chart, the notation on one nodule said warrants watching. I had a FNA, with the results of benign. Two well respected hospitals (Mt. Sinai & Mayo) both recommend removing the thyroid even if tests show benign. My Dr. wants to wait 6 months to see if they grow? I need to know if I should have the thyroid removed. Thank you

Followup scans not being done on synovial sarcoma of the neck

    17th September 2009

what do you know about synovial sarcoma of the neck. I had a 5 cm tumor removed from inbetween my carotid artery and my jugular vein on Sept 27, 2007, followed by massive radiation treatments for 6 weeks. Several things to note, I was very lucky as this tumor was caught by a root canal I had. I had the root canal and immed had jaw pain following. On my 2 week follow up w/the endodontist I felt a tiny swollen gland. The endodontist told me that my root canal was fine but she could feel the tiny swollen gland and I should follow up with an ENT. Within a week I saw the ENT by this time the tumor had started to bulge out of my neck that when I drank fluids it would come out of my nose. The ENT suspected the seriousness and sent me for ct-scans immed. Within a 2 week span this tumor was 5 cm and I was referred to Shands of UF, where I was diagnosed with synovial sarcoma of the neck and given a 10-40% chance to live. I was told if it had spread anywhere in my body my chances were not good, pet-scan followed no cancer anywhere else, they removed it and it was very well incapsulated and localized, no cancer cells in the remaining tissue of my neck, even upped my chances for a good outcome more. I was told I was a \"MODEL\" radiation patient which upped my chances even more. Here is the scary part that has me scared to death. By the way my dr is the dept head of radiation oncology at shands. He reassures me I am good and that if the cancer were back I would be symptematic and he does not believe the root canal had anything to do with tumor, he says it was a coincidence, which I do not believe because the pain came before the swollen gland. I was having scans every 3 months and the last scan I had was 3-01-09 when my insurance ran out. I am now without scans until March 2010 when disability ins kicks in. I am told if this cancer is going to reccur it will normally happen within the first 2 years and that the survival rate is not good, I think my dr is passifying me by telling me I am fine, he has already scheduled scans for 3/4/10 - 4 days after ins kicks in. What are the odds of it coming back and because I do cannot have scans me not knowing? I know I have been blessed with the way things have gone thus far but without the scans I feel like I have no piece of mind and I am scared to death that it could be in my neck again and I don\'t know it. After all I am missing the scans at the most crucial time for recurrence, etc etc, I am really nervous. Other than my normal nerve damage pain and some fatigue I feel like I am getting a sore throat. Other than that I feel good. Should my fear be warranted? Very nervous, thanks, Jodie

    Has the endometrial cancer returned?

    15th September 2009

I had surgery in May for endometrial cancer, stage 2A or 2B (not sure - different opinions). Due to the other health problems I was advised not to have radiation. I have just been back to doctor for a follow up and some of the tests done were CA125, CEA, CBC, CMP. All the blood test were normal. Before and right after surgery I did not have an appetite and ate just a little bit each day - My stomach always bothered me. My abdomen felt like a big balloon - nothing in there but air. However, these last few days my stomach feels different - still soft but more firmer - like there is something in there beside air. My appetite had gotten a lot better and I eat a lot - sometime more than 3 times a day. I eat a lot of fruits/vegetables/chicken and fish especially. I also drink a lot of 100% fruit juices and a lot of water. Could this account for the way my abdomen feels. Or do you think there is something wrong in there.

    Aramatose Inhibitors

    15th September 2009

My oncologist said that Aramotose Inhibitors do not cause joint pain, but can AGGRAVATE it, which my TMJ is proof of that. My neurologist now has my on Clonazapam to try and relax that, but not doing too well. My headaches seem worsened, also. Out of the 3 Inhibitors, which is the best: Arimidex, Femara, or Aromasin. On BreastCancer.org a woman wrote to say that she had three opinions from three different doctors that all agreed that no one knows the long term effect of Inhibitors, and also agreed that in Estrogen Postive Cancers, that in reality, it only gives a 2-5% benefit against recurrence. I need answers.

Breast cancer with metastases to the lung

    14th September 2009

Hello, My mother in law's breast cancer has returned after 9 years in remission. She had a PT scan which revealed the cancer is now in her lung. After having surgery to remove it, they decided it is too late to touch it. Diagnosis is Stage IV. She is 79 years old. She is going thru chemo - 3 rounds out of 6 (adriamycin and cytoxan). She thought of quitting due to the heavy side effects. She is weak and frail more and more everyday. -what is her prognosis? (I never asked the doctor because I hate to ask such a question in front of her.) -is chemo going to benefit her life quality in the long run? -is there a build-up of toxicity as her treatments progress? thank you very much

    Platelet level 115,000

    11th September 2009

I have my blood checked every 3 months since 2005 when I began taking Zocor then Vytorin. All my blood work is normal including cholesterol, except my platelet level has decreased steadily 150,000 in 2005; 135,000 in 2006; 128,000 in 2007 to most recently 115,000 in 2009. Could the reduction in platelet level be a result of the statins? Also is there any truth to the belief that Shark Liver Oil can increase platelet levels. I have an appointment with a hematologist.

    Oral Cancer Symptoms

    4th September 2009

Hello, A few months ago I felt a little tenderness in my right tonsil region. After some investigation with a flashlight I discovered what a tonsil stone is and have had them ever since. While this typically only on my right side, I also noticed a small red raised bump/pimple at the start of the fold of skin that goes over the tonsil (near the Uvula). Well here I am and the red bump is still there, not much bigger, and I still can feel the tonsil tenderness, but nothing drastic. Upon all my research online, I have convinced myself that I have oral cancer. I did go to a general doctor and he said he didn't see anything strange in his oral exam. DO you think this red bump/pimple is cancer? OR what else could it be? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Question on recently stage 4 breast cancer diagnosis

    2nd September 2009

My 75 year old mother recently received a diagnosis of stage 4 breast cancer. There is no prior history of cancer and all of the ct/mri's have come back negative for the breast, chest, abdomin, ovaries, uterus, etc. There is a mass in the liver that was tested and cancer cells were noted to be strong estrogen receptors. Is this common? Should we seek more testing to confirm that this is indeed stage 4 breast cancer versus the primary cancer being in another organ that would cause the disease to be re-staged offering her another treatment plan. Please help as we are still in shock and trying to get another opinion. The course of action is to start hormone therapy and follow up in three months. Thank you

Clarification about tests and possible esophagus carcinoma diagnosis

    1st September 2009

Dear Dr., Greetings! My father has undergone CT chest and the report reveals: 1. multiple discrete homogenous enlarged pretracheal & paratracheal lymphnodes are seen. largest measuring 24x12mm 2. there is short segment asymmetric mural thickening involving the mid esophagus over a segment of 2.8cm. maximum mural thickness measures 11mm. fat planes with surrounding structures is preserved. 3. rest all organs ans systems are fine. but the radiologist says that the impression of carcinoma esophagus. Earlier to this, his barium x-ray revealed irregular filling defect and endoscopy revealed mild ulceration, but not from inside the esophagus. So the doctors did not go for biopsy at that time. Symptoms: he doesn?t have any other symptoms except that when he eats,he feels the food passes through esophagus while touching its lining. No pain. No appetite or weight loss. Request you to please clarify, 1. Does this indicate esophageal carcinoma? 2. If yes, what possible stage we can predict before confirmatory tests? 3. Is there a possibility of Benign tumor? 4. Can this be only because of infection (possibly bacterial infection)? 5. What can be the possible confirmation tests apart from biopsy? 6. Any possibility of complete removal and no reoccurrence? plz suggest your opinion and further course of action. sincere regards,
