Would it be unusual for a "dip" or chewing tobacco user to develop oral cancer without ever seeing any changes to the any of the surfaces inside the mouth? In other words, is it uncommon for a chewing tobacco user to have advanced oral cancer without any obvious and visible signs of said cancer on the surfaces of the mouth. Redundant I guess. Sorry for that.

My father is 53 years old and has been diagnosed with obstructive jaundice. He has been advised to undergo a ca 19-9 test and the result was initially >1000. After about a week he had undergone the test again and the result was >25000. Then a stent was successfully placed in his bile duct to facilitate the flow of bile which had caused his bilirubin to rise to 15. While the stenting was being done the doctor found a stone struck in his bile duct and also found the bile duct narrower than it should be, so he took a brushing from the region which was sent for a histo-pathology test the result to which was negative. We were then advised to discharge him and bring him back for further treatment after a month and go for regular ca 19-9 and bilirubin tests during the period. As advised we had his blood sample tested and the result showed bilirubin to be 4.2 and ca 19-9 to be >5500 which is less than the previous value. I would be ever indebted if you find time out of your busy schedule to reply me and tell me what inference can be drawn from the above mentioned facts. Thank you

I recently found out that I have hpv. The strain I have does NOT produce warts, just possible cervical cancer. I am very educated on the subject but I just started dating someone whom I really care for and I plan on telling him before we have sex. I'm really worried that he will freak out being that he does not have much sexual experience. How should I approach this topic? Also, I hear different things. How can this affect him? My primary care MD said that the chances of him being affected by it were the same as him being struck by lightning...?

I was diagnosed with Stage 4 with mets to liver & bone about 3 years ago. I have been on treatment the majority of that time. Have just recently changed to Doxil weekly. I found a knot under my arm (on the "good breast" side) about 1 1/2 weeks ago. It seems to have increased in size, but does not cause pain. It feels like the original nodule when I was first diagnosed in 2000. My question is does this most likely represent more mets, another tumor or different cancer in this breast, or could it be something else? What can I expect as far as intervention?

My 26 yr old son has been diagnosed with testicular cancer. Within 6 months, it has spread to his prostate, colon and brain. He is now on experimental chemo and they will start radiation because everything else has failed to stop the spread. How long before he succumbs to this disease?

hello there, i have a question regarding my mum. she is 48, on no medications, never had any health problems in her life. for the past 11 months she has this cough. it is real irritating for her and she has been bringing up stuff lately, not sure if she was at the start of year but she is now. she is also serverly anemic. at the moment her hemoglobin is 75. she has thelasemea and usually she is around 97. in june she had her left kidney removed due to cancer. the doctors said that the anemia was a reslut of the cancer but 6 months on she is still anemaic. when they first found out how low her levels were, (i think this was in may perhaps), she had two blood transfusion and i think she went back up to 80 but she soon went back down agian. after she had her operation this cough that she has dissapeard as well for 2 months but then came back in august. for the past few years she has always seemed to get this cough at the start of evey year and it usually just lasts for 3 months. it just so happend that this time it went on for longer so she went to hemotologists and other doctors to see about it and she was sent for a CT scan which is how the cancer was found. last month she had an endoscopy and a colonoscopy, both of which came up clear. she has also tried possibly every cough medicine on the market but nothing seems to work. what could be causing this cough and why is she so anemic?

I recently went to the doctor for my annual pap smear exam. My results came back as having abnormal cells in my cervix. My first thought was precancerous cells or an STD...HPV. My doctor performed a colposcopy to collect a biopsy sample of my cells. I was informed that my cells were considered "minor," and no major changes had occurred, and was recommended to go back to the doctor in 6 months to make sure it would not turn into HPV. My questions are... With my 3 doses of the Gardasil vaccination, will that help prevent my cells from turning into HPV and just remain "abnormal?" Is my boyfriend at risk for developing HPV, even though my abnormal cells are not considered HPV yet? I've read that men have a very small percentage of showing any symptoms, and that there is no real test for them. Is it safe for my boyfriend and I to perform oral sex on one another considering the abnormal cells and the chance of them turning into HPV? Thank you!

why does cancer drugs such as paclitaxel and vinca alkaloids only target cancer cells and not other cells? and also I know cancer drugs suppress microtubule dynamics but it is before the spindles bind to the kinetochore of chromosome in prophase or after it binds to the kinetochore it stops the chromosome form reching opposite pole to the metaphase plate and therfore microtubule spindles do not shorten? thank you

Hi, I am 160 cms and weigh 83 kgs. I want to loose weight. I am controlling my diet and excercise but i feel i need some extra help as I have a lot of weight to loose. There is one place where they are offering weight loss using RF monopolar and bipolar devices (Thermosculpting ). The heat produced melts the fat inside. I read some reserch papers which say it's pretty good and effective way with no side effects. But I was wondering about the long term side effects. Is it ok if i get this done? How deep do there rf penetrate? Can they cause any kind of cancer/tumour or damage to my internal body organs in later life? Is it safe to get it done on hips and thighs? Can i get it done on stomach too- will this cause damage to my internal organs or my c section cut or cause problems in getting pregnant again etc? Waiting for your reply. Anna

I woke up three weeks ago with a soreness on my left breast and I felt a lump as well. The soreness extends it self to my armpit and I feel it more in the mornings. I have no cancer history on my mothers' side but am unsure about my fathers'. I have a doctors appointment in a few days but I am worried it might be cancer. Do my symptoms fit in that category?

Actually, since beginning this new regimen of vitamins, I still have daily bowel movements daily. HOWEVER, I constantly feel as if I have gas, but it actually bowel slowly leaking out into my underwear, causing those dreaded streaks. Due to the breast cancer, I am wondering if it is the new regimen of vitamins causing this, or a new cancer? I have a spinach salad daily with brocco sprouts, which is new to my diet, also. Worried again......Can you be of any help to me? I had my last colonoscopy and endoscopy in July of 2008. Small polyp, is all.

My family meets the Amsterdam and Bethesda criteria for Lynch symdrome II. I have tested positive for a genetic mutation. I get biannual (2 yr) colonoscopies (3 polyps found), annual intravaginal ultrasound(female), and urine cytology. Are there any additional screening tests I should be doing? Any annual blood work? I have good insurance and can self refer to specialists, but do most of mundane medical work through the N.P. at my universities Student Health center. I don't see a general oncologist, just the gync. oncologist and the GI doctor. I am 40, and approaching the average age of onset for many of the syndrome cancers, especially in my particular family. Known cancers in my family are: skin, bladder, ureter, kidney, endometrial, ovarian, and colon (mets to pancreas). Upper GI's aren't identified.

I know that ovarian cancer is very hard to find in its early stages. Is it possible for 2 CT scans and a transvaginal ultrasound to come back clear when a woman does in fact have ovarian cancer? About how long would ovarian cancer have to develop before it reached an easily detectable stage?

The tumor on my lower neck was removed two weeks ago. I just found out that the pathologist indicated that it is anaplastic large cell lymphoma, non hodgkins. His report indicated that although scarcity of non viable cells were found due to extensive necrosis, the overall morphology indicated anaplastic large cell lymphoma. This tumor is causing a lot of pain. My alk test was also negative. My cat scan showed no other signs. What is my chances of beating this cancer? Do you think the cat scratch disease a year ago set it off? if it was in higher stages would it have shown on the cat scan?

Hello, I was diagnosed in Feb. 2009 with mucoepidermoid carcinoma of the LEFT parotid gland. It "appears" that I have had a chalazion (since Aug. 2009) on my bottom LEFT eyelid. I have been treated for this by my ophthalmologist and family practitioner with antibiotics and steroids, tablets and drops respectfully, for a month now, still no change. My question is how long do I wait for further action (if any) and should I be worried (medical history) that this is sebaceous cell carcinoma and no one is catching it yet? As it took 3 months to establish the other cancer. Thank You for your time and consideration in answering this question. HLB
