I have just recently recieved a Dx of ICD caught early and I have a strong family hx with Sister at 39 dx Mom and Her Sister(aunt) I am contiplating a lumpectomy vs a bilateral mastectomy/ reconstruction and I dont want to be "radical" about it But is it true that with a strong fam hx and my new dx that I have a stronger chance of reaccurrance in either same breast - other breast or even ovaries-uterus. I also wondered if a surgeon EVER thinks it is wise to keep the nipples or too high risk for cancer cells

My dad has CMML. The worst thing he is experiencing is a violent choking-like cough. Although his doctor does not think there is any connection between it and the disease, I believe there has to be. He has had every scan and test known to man - no evidence of any pulmonary problem. The cough goes away after chemo treatments and blood transfusions, only to return when he is several days out from those treatments.Cough syrups do nothing. I understand there is a gland called the thymus that has something to do with white blood cells and it's located near the windpipe. I've read about rare suffocation deaths linked to issues with the thymus gland. Could it be swollen and pressing on the pipe which is making him choke like this? What can be done?

My sister inlaw is being treated for stomach cancer (stomach & surrounding lymphnodes). My husb,3yo,1yo & myself have a nasty flu. We planned to visit and she is looking forward to it but I?m wary to expose her to our germs. She says she feels well except for tiredness & troubles eating (swollen oesophagus) & she really wants to see our kids. I don?t really want to pass on this flu to her & she finds it hard to shake off.We could visit in a month or so when we are all well. What?s acceptable for sick people around cancer patients?

I am a 30 yo male. I have been experiencing mild chills and sensitivity to temperature changes (similar to a low-grade fever) for a little over 1 month. During the past two weeks, I have suddenly begun sweating a great deal at night. I have noticed no other symptoms of an infection. When I first noticed the mild chills, at least two lymph nodes in my neck were quite swollen, and I assumed I was fighting off a mild infection. However, since the mild chills have been persistent, I am concerned that this may be more serious. My neck lymph nodes seem recurrently swollen. I am trying to make an appointment with my PCP asap, but I would like to know if it would be standard practice to test me for lymphoma. If so, are there other symptoms I should be looking for?

I am a 46 year old male with Spondyloarthropaty (pre-Ankylosing Spondylitis) with signs of Crohn\'s Disease. I currently take Cimzia but have been on numerous biologics for about 5 years. Recently my Doctor discovered an MGUS. I have been monitored by a hemotologist for this. Currently my Free Kappa Lt Chain in the Serum is 8.66 and my Free Lambda is 1.95. Immunoglobulin G is 521 Immunoglobulin A is 368 Immunoglobulin M is 38 M-Spike #1 =.3 M-Spike #2 = .1 Kappa Lamda Ratio is 4.44 These are all serum results. 24 hour urine sample is currently normal but the last two showed Free Kappa and Lambda Lt Chains in normal range but the ratio on the first was high at 13.04 and 13.05. A normal immunfixation patter existed in the urine. The serum immunofixation show IgA monoclonal protein with kappa light chain secificity with and apparent moncloncal free lambda light chain. My Questions are this Is there any relation with long term Biologic usage and MGUS or Multiple Myeloma? Also, does it really matter about the kappa/lamda ratio, if the actual Free light chains are in normal range? I do secrete a lot of urine. my 24 hour urine voumes have been 7950 ml, 7100 ml, 7515ml, could this high volume of urine cause the tests to reveal innacurate data? I thank you in advance of any insight you can give me.

Hello, Back in April I have undergone radical trachelectomy and pelvic lymphadectomy in Lithuania (1B1 G2/3 SCC). 2 months later (July) in a routine check up my doctor took a biopsy and the diagnosis was VAIN 3. They gave me the option of a similar surgery to remove the affected area or to get a radical hysterecromy. Back in the UK, I went for a second opinion and after several check ups (including colposcopies, biopsies, ultrasound and MRI) 3 different consultants failed to demonstrate any recurrence in cervix even though vaginal bleed and abdominal pains were present and therefore I was told that the VAIN 3 could?ve been removed in a biopsy. However in December back during a holiday in Lithuania, I started to bleed and have abdominal pains so I went to the doctors, which, after having explained my clinical history decided to perform an endoscopy and vaginal biopsy. Whilst the endoscopy didn?t show any abnormalities, the results of the biopsy were Cancer (C53) with a Grade of G3. My question is. How likely is that after losing 6 months of treatment (in the UK) the cancer has spread to other organs in or out the pelvic area? And what could my options be? Do I still have chances to get rid of cancer? I?m planning to return to Lithuania for treatment as doctors in the UK have been unable to detect any cancer at all. Also, I wouldn?t want to spend Christmas in Hospitals so how likely is for my situation to get worse if I wait a couple of weeks before I get treated. Thank you Neringa

My father aged 53 had been diagnosed with obstructive jaundice and the C.T Scan then done revealed a stricture in the common bile duct and the reason likely for the stricture was cholangiocarcinoma.Later E.R.C.P was done and a stent was successfully put into place and the jaundice part subsided. We were advised by the consultant oncologist Dr. S.H Advani to put the patient under observation and to report after a month with a freshly done C.T Scan. The recently done C.T scan revealed a hypodense lesion in segment IV of the liver of area 16X11mms.On seeing the reports the doctor administered 3 doses of gemcitabine to be given on day-1 day-8 and day-15. I would be ever indebted if you kindly let me know whether cyberknife surgery is possible in this case, and if yes what are the chances of success. Thank you Satadeep

Ever since being put onto the Arimidex, which a side effect is 'joint pain', my TMJ is horrendous. My neurologist then gave me Clonazapma 1 mg, 3 x daily, but I cut them in half to take 6 x daily to get me through the day.(which, by the way had 'joint pain', also as a side effect. Can you think of another for muscle spasms? After 10 months, my oncologist has now switched me to try Femara. She said that she believes it gives less joint pain. Here are my questions for you: 1.) Which of the A.I's are the strongest (Arimidex, Femara, or Aromisin) 2.) Which would YOU recommend for me, having high risk, grade 3, lymph node positive cancer? 3.) Which A.I. gives the less chance of recurrence? 4.) Does one actually give less joint pain than another? 5.) The pamplet on Arimidex states that it causes the body to produce an enzyme to stop the body from producing estrogen all together. 6.) On the pamplet for Femara it states that is 'reduces' the amount. I want to fight this cancer with the best A.I. with the best results. 7.) Are any of these A.I.'s made with steroid components? 8.) Does one A.I. compared to another cause more bone loss, etc.? 9.) Is it bad for someone that has had breast cancer to be taking caffiene? I am in rebound migraine mode, and I have to take 6 tablets daily now for the last 10 years. My neurologist has tried everything else, butI get side effects). I hope you take time to answer each and every question, because once a woman has breast cancer, and a new issue is brought up, she needs to know all the answers. I thank you for that. Take care

Hello, when I took the flu vaccine 3 weeks ago I felt some pain under the same arm, and found a couple of swollen lymph nodes, they were tender and very easy to move under the skin. Now, 3 weeks later its still there and doesnt hurt anymore, but they're still easy to move around under the arm. Went to the doctor to check it out last week and she said it was pretty normal to have larger lymph nodes under the arm. Anyway, my father had non-hodgkins lymphoma (under the arm) some years ago, so just lymphnodes scares me to death really. To my question, how long should swollen lymph nodes stay swollen after an H1N1 vaccination? Is there something I can do to reduce it? Like, drinking something special, train, give the nodes massage? I'm really worried and the doctors refuse to take any biopsy on any of my palpable nodes, since their to "small" or as they say "nothing to worry about". I'm pretty sure these lymph nodes comes from the vaccine, so, is it possible to reduce them in size just to ease my soul? Thanks again /A

Hi, My wife is of 35 yrs old. She had a grade II Invasive Ductal cancer in her left breast. The size of the malignant lesion was at 0.9 cm. The sentinel lymph node malignancy status was negative. The cancer tissue was ER negative and PR positive at a score of +1. The HER-2 score was at +1. After the surgery, and according to the oncologist treatment plan, a Radio Therapy course of 16 sessions was taken. The chemotherapy was not recommended, and then Tamoxifen Novaldex was prescribed and it will be taken for 5 yrs. According to some article I read at Cancer.gov, Tamoxifen is effective only for ER positive breast cancer. My question is: are we on the right track? Should we continue with Tamoxifen? Are Tamoxifen benefits outweigh its side effects. Thanks and regards, Muntaser

Is it normal for lung cancer to not grow in 6 months? Is it truly possible to make a cancer prognosis without a biopsy, especially if there has been no growth, and the modules are "too small to biopsy?

Bulky Thymus? In June, I had a PET scan (to check the diagnosis of a schwannoma on my spine - L4 & 5 - this was removed last month via my abdomen). On my scan report, it states: 'the Thymus is bulky, it measures 1.1mm in its maximum depth. there is a heterogeneous FDG uptake within it (SUV max 3.7). Tracer distribution elsewhere through the mediastinu and lungs is normal. No CT abnormalities were identified in the lungs. Should I, a 42 year old woman whose family history isn't the best(father died of liver cancer last year, younger sister has 2 types of primary bone cancer in the same leg, cousin has hodgkins lymphoma, aunt died of breast cancer) be concerned about this comment on my thymus or ignore it (as I have been whilst the schwannoma was dealt with).

I recently irritated a raised mole i've had on my lower back for some time, causing it to bleed and itch, so i ripped it off. I had my GP take a look at the mole about a week prior to this happening just because I was always curious about it. He seemed excited about seeing it (I guess moles are interesting to him). He took one look at it and said a name for the type of mole it was and said that it was benign. After I ripped this thing off I kept the area clean and covered with neosporin and a bandage for for about 3 days. When I took the band aid off, there was a new irritated patch of skin, where one of the adhesive wings of the band aid was, and that has now formed into a round rash looking area. This is about an inch away from the ripped off mole. It is scaly, was itchy and somewhat painful at first, but not as much now, and has a couple of redder dots within the parameter of the rash. The rash is about the size of a quarter and has stayed the same size, and has stayed separate from the ripped off mole spot. Does this sound characteristic of a melanoma or another form of skin cancer given this description and it's proximity to the disturbed mole?
