Hi, i am doing a research project on Leukemia. Is there any info that you can tell me about how a patient is diagnosed, common symptoms and possible treatments for Leukemia.Another question is if there is anyway to prevent forms of Leukemia? If a person is diagnosed what are their treatment options? Do you reccommend any emotional health, when a family gets bad news and doesn't know how to vent their anger? Thankyou so much, your knowledge would really help me learn more about Leukemia and all that goes with it!

Dear Doctor, My Mom is a breast cancer patient that has her cancer spread from her breast to neck area and to her brain which she has been treated with a whole head radiation. Additionally, recently she has been infected with shingles on her left face. Her current Oncologist has advise her to proceed with a Cyberknife or gamma knife treatment to her head lesion, but both the Cyberknife and Gamma Knife doctors conclude that by proceeding with the radiation treatment at this stage, we will expose her to risk of lose of vision, motor skill to part of her body and her current quality of life which both doctor recommend to use a chemo or oral medication to treat her brain tumors instead. Additionally both doctor also advice to perform a Head MRI scan every 6 weeks to monitor the activities of the lesion, and in the event the lesion is increasing in sizes rapidly then we should proceed with the radiation treatment. 5% strength only. Methomerate- 2.5mg. 12 tablets. 1 tablet, 2 times a day for 2 days a week. Oral chemo drag. After food. Exp 31-01-2001. 10% Strength only. Tykerb- 2 in the morning and 2 in the evening, at least 1/2-1hr before food. My Questions are- 1)Should we follow the advice of the cyberknife and gammaknife doctor to delay the radiation treatment or should we follow the oncologist advice to treat the brain lesion with radiation now? 2)Should we change her current chemo medication also, as avastin will lead to brain bleeding and she has been on this regime for about 1 year? 3)is it true that since mom has tired so many medication before, avastin at this stage don't benefit a lot as avastin should be use as a first line of defence? 4)What chemo medication will you use to treat her currently especially her brain tumours? Is termodal a good choice for her head? 5)Judging from her Pet CT scan, what is your opinion of her neck area, her ENT doctor said it could be inflammation? 6)Her current oncologist said that she is very reluctant to give her new chomo because the grow of the tumour is very minimum, is that possible? 7) Kindly advice us of our next course of action.

My uncle has just been diagnosed with a brain tumour they have also found a growth on his Kidney measuring 4cm by 4.5cm. He has lost use of his left hand and left leg. His speech is slurred. Is it likely that this is cancer and if so what sort of life expectancy would we be looking at. He is 81.

my 80 year old dad has prostrate cancer. He also had bowel cancer earlier this year and had the bowel cancer cut out. It was a bigger operation than they expected as the cancer was attached to the bladder as well as another area. He is currently had three chemotherapy treatments, with almost no side effects. He has another condition, cellulite odema causing swelling, heat and redness in his left leg. To date it has not been painfull. Last night he got really shivery and panicky and took a while to settlel. This morning he woke up with pain in his left thigh and was throwing up bile. He is also feeling panicky and scared as these are new symptoms. should he go to hospital or wait to get into gp? He has had the swelling of the lower leg at times before the bowel cancer operation. The leg swelling seems to be unrelated to the cancer as far as doctors have said, but no one knows why it is happening and now he has pain in upper leg. He has been checked and cleared for DVT. He also had a stent from his kidney to bladder, which was recently replaced due to passing blood and infection.

I have been suffering with skin rashes for the past few years when exposed to the sun. I always have pain, in my legs, arms, and neck I sometimes can't tell if its the joints or the bones. I am always tired and feel lightheaded, and have frequent stiff necks and headaches. I recently tested possitive for ANA but the references were negative. My lymphs were 24%. I found a lump in my groin about a year ago and never got it checked and when i showed the doctor she ordered a catscan and a ldh level. She said it was a lymphnode and it was hard and deep. Can this be a sign of lymphoma? I often get the bed sweats but not on a daily basis, and my sheets and clothing are soaked. I don't check my temp so i'm not sure of fevers. Sometimes i feel my neck is swollen but only on right side and it feels like a stiff neck but when i turn my head it feels like something is there. i am scared and waiting for these results is makin me crazy.

My 30 year old son told me recently that he has Stage 3 nonseminoma testicular cancer. He is getting surgery and chemotherapy and we are doing everything to help him. The problem is that he was told to get a CT scan about 10 weeks ago and did not do anything until last week. How far did this type of cancer spread in those 10 weeks? Was there significant damage by waiting those 10-11 weeks? How much does this kind of cancer spread in two months?

Hi, I'm a medical student working on a pathology case where, based on 7 pictures, we must come up with a diagnosis. I believe it is infiltrating ductal carcinoma with metastases to lymph nodes and bone, but wanted another opinion from an oncologist. The file with pictures can be found at: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=PQ2V9VBE Thank you!

My mother had a pint of fluid removed from her lungs. The doctor wants to wait a couple of weeks to do another ct scan, to see how much more fluid is returning. Is this normal? The one part of the test that came back was normal, but the overall test was abnormal. The lung doctor sent her to a surgeon to do a biopsy, but he is the one that wants to wait. he said that it was an invasive proceedure. She is 80 and also was diagnosed with atrial fibliration.

we have a functional adult family member diagnosed bipolar with schitzophrenia. She has told us that she was diagnosed with mylogenic leukemia (forgive spelling). We looked at the American Cancer Society website and it seems that there are two types: acute and chronic. The difference is unclear to us. It also seems that a bone core/marrow sample must be taken to determine either a leukemia diagnosis and/or whether the disease is acute or chronic. Our family member has told us that the diagnosis came only on blood tests (11 vials) that are more sophistocated so no bone sample is needed. We cannot find that on the ACA site. She also claims an oncologist told her she has likely had the condition for 6 years, that she is extremely anemic, and her white blood cell count is highly elevated (no specifics). HIPPA, and she, prevent us from knowing. Any idea if we are talking acute or chronic ML? What would be significant differences in symptoms and treatments? Any help would - help!

PR 80% strong staining, ER 70% weak to strong staining, Her2 from 2+ to 3+ depending on the tumor area. What treatment options do I have with all three receptors positive? If there are various options, how to choose the right one for me? What additional biochemical or other tests may be needed? I am 53, white, almost menopausal, and had a lumpectomy 2 weeks ago. Pat report shows invasive ductal carcinoma, IIA, all three receptor positive, grade 3, 1/6 nodes with scattered cells < 200, 2.2 cm single tumor.

In October 2009 I was diagnosed with 3 masses on my Pancreas, 2 were just fatty tissues but the third one was diagnosed as being suspicious and required a biopsy as soon as possible. On December 7, 2009 I was scheduled for a EUS procedure however because I did not have a medical coverage they canceled the procedure. From January 2010 until today April 2010 I am experiencing several symptoms; severs Nauseous, lost of appetite, loss of weight, pain in the upper abdomen and the mid section along with pain in the back, diarrheas on 2 occasions, severe headaches on the back of the head, on the left side, I also have episodes of imbalance and thinking and sudent poor vision. At time the pain is so sever in the mid section that I must bent over to ease the pain. I have also experienced muscles spasms on my left leg (thigh) and on my right foot. In 2001 I had breast cancer and part of the breast was removed. My I have your assessments based on my medical status at this time. how long will it take for someone with CIN 2 pre cancer cells to develop cancer on their cervix and what are the symptoms? i sometimes bleed during sex, have very sharp pains once or twice a month that wakes me or makes me fall to the ground and feel light headed, like ive been winded. would that be a symptom of it developing into something more serious or would it just have somethin to do with my PCOS?
