After the initial fever, I noticed a painful lump on the left side of my neck which was verifed both by the ortho and ENT and was perscribed anti inflammatory tabs. The lump subsided in 3 weeks but then noticed an enlarged lymph node (with pain) which was below the initial lump. Blood tests came out normal. Minimal weight loss. Had weekly blood test for about 3 weeks which all came normal. Had done an FNAC which showed as necrotising lymphadentitis. The lymph node subsided but has regained size after the last infection. A bit of pain is also there along the left shoulder blade. Should I be worried about lymphoma or any other cancer as I have had 3 fevers (had paracetamol 3 times too) in last month all lasting precesily one night.

Hi I had an incidence of swollen lymph nodes and after 1.5 months there is still some swollen nodes remaining according to the CT scan. This is the sequence of events * On Saturday morning I notice lymph node on left side of my neck is swollen, with mild pain on pressing the swelling * On Monday I see my Physician who referred me to an ENT. By now the pain has increased and nodes are swollen big and prominently visible * Blood reports seems like everything is normal. Nothing abnormal in WBCs, proteins, etc. * ENT puts me on an antibiotic and after about 2 weeks the swelling has decreased considerably. * We decide to wait and watch and after about 1.5 months, the ENT is not able to feel the lymph nodes using his hand. We still go ahead with the CT scan just to be safe. * The scan came with the following results - Mildly Enlarged node left Jugulodigastric - 1.5 x 0.8 cm - Borderline Enlarged node right Jugulodigastric - 1.3 x 0.9 cm, 1.1 x 0.8 cm - Borderline Enlarged sub mandibular 1.2 x 1.0 cm - The final "Impression" section says: Mildly enlarged and borderline enlarged lymph nodes seen in the anterior triangle, largest in the left submandibular region (Level II). The Lymph nodes do not look pathologic. These likely represent reactive Lymphadenopathy * Now my ENT feels this is not critical and says if I want to - I can get a Ultrasound guided needle aspiration. (OR) I could wait for 3 more months and repeat the scan to see if the swelling does not increase. I am pretty scared like everyone else having swollen lymph nodes is... what are the chances that this could be lymphoma? Should I go for the needle aspiration? I have read a lot that the needle aspiration produces false negatives depending on the chosen sample. But my ENT feels that it is not worth taking out an entire node, given the size of the swollen nodes. Can you give me some suggestions. Thx

Hello, I was diagnosed with Stage IV metastatic thyroid cancer. I also have ulcerative pan colitis, which is resistant to meds, including prednisone. I am steering clear of "treatments" using Imuran (6MP) and Remicade, due to the fact that Remicade causes proliferation of cancer cells and Imuran suppresses the immune system, listing cancer as a "side effect." As a person with Stage IV metastatic thyroid cancer, I think both of these drugs are extremely dangerous and risky for me. Do you agree? Thank you!!

Hi I had a mammo which showed a cluster of microcalcification, Then had a biopsy the path report state this A. columnar cell lesion with focal microcalicifications. B. incidental foci of lobular carcinoma in situ. Er + And thats it for the pathology report. The lady who did the biopsy said if it is anything it will be dcis but lobular. My doc called me last friday and said I am sorry you have dcis but its lobular you have some cancer cells in there, and you need a lumpectomy and 5 years of tamox. I met with a surgeon who has now schedualed me for surgury and possibly radiation 1 month later and the tamoxefin. So on the path report I do not see Dcis any where. Does the columnar cell lesion with focal microcalcifications also stand for Dcis? Thank you

I just recently had an ultrasound that determined that I have 2 cysts on the right ovary and that the ovary was enlarged. There was also a thickness of the endometrium lining and a very small polyp on the uterus. My questions are if I should get a CA-125 blood test before having to wait weeks to get into a gynocologist and does this sound like cancer

My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer last year. She had a masectomy and was given the all clear. Started preventative chemo and at the end of the sessions was told that the cancer has moved to her spine. During her last visit to the oncologist they said that her liver is enlarged and looks like the cancer has spread. Last week she was admitted to hospital with heart failure and pulmonary oedema. After x-ray and ct scan the internal organ specialist told us that she has blood clots in her lungs, aspergillosis in lung cavities, looks like the cancer has spread to the lungs as well. She was discharged as they said they could not do anything for her anymore. She is on 15 hr oxygen per day, been given the chemo pill tamoplex or also known as nolvadex. She is also on Lasix's. No pain medication was given or any further advice given. Please I am desperate. I have been told that my mother is terminal and we are now playing the waiting game. Canyou give me any advice on other treatments or any advice in general. Please

hi my mother had a 6 pound tumor removed from her stomach in Feb 2009. We were told that it had attached itself to the pancreas and that they couldn't get it all and that she had a liposarcoma. She has had chemotherapy for this and was told 3 months ago that nothing had changed and that it had not grown. In the mean while she has been in and out of hospital for treatment of a cyst which is on the pancreas. She went back to the oncologist today for her 3 month check ( please note this is a new doctor who could barely speak to her and only gave her 5 minutes of her time) she told my mother that she does not have cancer now at all. But to come back in 4 months and to have blood tests done before returning. Can a liposarcoma go away we are very confused is she cancer free? Kind Regards Trish

My sister, whom is 29, was recently diagnosed with Stage III colon cancer. She started developing symptoms in December of 2009. Her symptoms included rectal bleeding, severe abdominal pain, and chronic diarrhea. The hospital did several tests which included a CT scan. The results showed acute colitis. She was sent home. In February 2010, she returned to the hospital with the same symptoms. The hospital did more extensive testing, which included a colonscopy with biopsies. They sent her home with a diagnosis of "severe stricture", but no actual cause of the stricture (possible Crohn's disease). They told her to follow-up with the GI doctors. In April, the GI doctor did a round of nightly enemas and steroids. Half way through her treatment, he called her back to the office to perform a sigmoidoscopy. They found a T3Nx tumor, which they claim was not present 2 months earlier. Can you please tell me how quickly tumors can form and if it is possible that the tumor grew that quickly. Also, they are doing radiation and chemotherapy before surgery. I was under the impression that surgery was the first mode of action to take.

I have asked several questions here before, and I'm very pleased for the good answers I've recieved. I have another question though. When a cancerous lymph node/nodes pop up, how long does it normally take until you feel sick? I mean, one day you have to feel that something isn't right. Can you walk around with hodgkins for many years without knowing it? And does cancerous lymph nodes always continue to grow? Yours sincerly Andreas

I have a hard lump/bump on my left side just above my left breast. It feels like it is about 2cm from my sternum. It is hard and does not move. It is larger than when I first noticed it. It is painfull and it sometimes feels like pins pushing in to my left breast and sometimes it feels like it is on fire. I have been to a GP and was told that is is inflamed cartlidge. I was given an anti-inflamatory and injection, but it did not help.

i was wondering how cancer cells are able keep going through mitosis when RNA polymerase is inhibited by the cell, which limit's its capacity to produce proteins to self sustain? in other words, how does the cell manage not to kill it's self in the process of being cancerous?

Hi there, for the last 10 weeks my right arm has been dead/tingling/wierd sensation. This is much worse at night and very bad when i am sleeping as it wakes me and i cant get cumfy. I am not sleeping on it or putting pressure or anything on it. It is like it for most of the day but i'd say probably worse when i am resting it. I have been getting headaches and feeling sick just at random times during the day. My appetite is fine.
